The project is headed by the Abu Dhabi future energy company. Initiaited in2006, the projrct is projected to cost US$22billion and take some eight years to build,with the first phase scheuled to be complete and habitable in2009. The city will cover 6square Km (2.3sqm)on asit 6.4Km(2.5sq mi)in size and will be home to 50000 and1,500in buanisses, pimary commrercial and manufacturing facilities specializing in environmentally-friendly products, and an expected 40,000 worker will commute to the city daily > It will also be the location of university, the masdar Institute of science snd Technology,which will be a/sssisted by the Massachuaetts will be banned within the city ;travel will be accomplished via public mass transit and personal rapid transit system,with existing road- and railway connecting to other location outside the city>
